The Western Center for Prevention Resources is pleased to host a training on the program “Storytelling for Empowerment.”

Storytelling for Empowerment is a school-based, bilingual (English and Spanish) intervention for teenagers at risk for substance abuse, HIV, and other problem behaviors due to living in impoverished communities with high availability of drugs and limited health care services. The program primarily targets Latino/Latina youth and uses cognitive decision making, positive cultural identity (cultural empowerment), and resiliency models of prevention as its conceptual underpinnings. The training will be held on March 5, 2010 from 9am-5pm at Anuvia Prevention & Recovery Center, in Charlotte, NC. The fee for the training is $15 and will include morning refreshments and lunch.

Attendance at the training is limited to 25 participants. Participants will be selected in an on-going manner from the registration forms received in order to reflect a diverse group of regions and providers. Confirmation of participation will be sent by email and will contain information for submitting payment.

This webinar will examine the trends in intentional abuse of prescription drugs and the mortality rates associated with intentional prescription drug abuse.
