The first annual “Above the Influence” Day coincided with this year’s Fall APNC Conference.
It’s Natl #AboveTheInfluence Day | Flo Stein, Chief, CPM, Div of MH/DD/SAS, announces kickoff of NC ATI Campaign today at #APNC12
According to the October 19 ONDCP blog post, “the keystone event of National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, National “Above the Influence” Day turned the spotlight on teens in a national discussion centered on how America’s young people stay “above” negative influences”. In honor of this event, Flo Stein announced North Carolina’s support of the campaign and encouraged communities to take part in our statewide efforts.
Prior to this announcement, The North Carolina Centers for Prevention Resources began partnering with key stakeholders such as the Partnership for a Drug Free North Carolina to provide technical assistance and a resource packet to implement statewide ATI activities. All Youth Serving Organizations focusing on advocacy and/or leadership that utilize a youth leadership models and/or have opportunities for activities that involve cooperation, creativity, personal visioning and community involvement are encouraged to utilize the ATI resources. Examples of target groups include but are not limited to: Preventing Underage Drinking Youth Groups; SADD Chapters; PACCs working with youth; Teen Fest; SAVE Chapters; TRU Groups; Scout Troops; Peer Leader Groups; School Leadership Clubs.
