FASD Awareness Day – September 9
This year Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day falls on Sunday, September 9, 2012. In recognition of this day, Michael Dublin, Coordinator of Faith Works Together and Amy Hendricks, Project Director of the NC Fetal Alcohol Prevention Program are collaborating to raise awareness about FASD in the faith-based communities. Michael will be providing a sermon centered around the dangers of alcohol use and the impact on children and families, as it relates to FASD. In addition to the sermon, the congregation of South Central Church of Christ in Raleigh will be addressed by a parent who has a daughter with an FASD. Both Michael and Amy feel that the message delivered during the sermon, the sharing of a life story raising a daughter who has been affected by prenatal alcohol use, and the delivery of printed FASD information in the church bulletins will be very impactful to the members. Hopefully, empowering them to carry the FASD message back to their communities and sharing it with everyone they know.
If you have a church family that you think would like to recognize FASD Awareness Day, even if it is just by noting the day in the church bulletin, or want to find out about other FASD awareness activities happening in the state, please contact Amy Hendricks @ 828-213-0035 or by email at amy.hendricks@msj.org, or visit www.ncpregnancy.org.
