Suicide Prevention Week — September 9-15, 2012

In the United States, one person dies by suicide every 14.2 minutes. In North Carolina, more than 1,000 individuals die from suicide each year and more than 14,000 are treated or hospitalized for self-inflicted wounds.

In honor of National Suicide Prevention Week, a recent article in the DHHS Employee Newsletter (Page 12) reminded us of one program already in place to help meet the need for emergency assistance to those people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. The North Carolina Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-273-8255 (TALK).
