Welcome to the new and improved blog at PreventionIsTheAnswer.org. The intent is for this site to become the primary place we can all go for timely information on topics of critical interest to the North Carolina prevention community.
This blog builds on what was started at the community mobilization summit trainings in Asheville and Greenville in June 2009. We are responding to your call to action: to identify the ways and means for state and community partners to collaboratively nurture and support communities as they mobilize for change to reduce substance abuse.
Partnerships. Alliances. Collaboratives. Coalitions. “PACCs.” You and others on the “front lines” of prevention have spoken. You want to know:
- What strategies are leading to real change in communities like mine?
- Who can help my community brainstorm and problem solve?
- Where can I access links to other materials and resources?
- What trainings are coming up?
- Who else is working on similar issues to mine?
- How can I share time-sensitive updates on proposed policy changes with others?
We have heard you! The blog at PreventionIsTheAnswer.org can serve as the hub for connecting communities with each other and with the resources and information they need to succeed.
We will develop this blog together.
A core group of folks has agreed to get the blog started. (For a list of these fabulous initiators, see below.) We will post new information once per week. We ask that you regularly visit the site, comment on the posts, and suggest topic areas for new posts.
Content will be organized into categories, which will be listed on the right side of the website. That way, when you need information, you will have it at your fingertips.
After a few months, we will take a look to see who is using the site, how it is being used, and whether it is meeting the needs you identified. If the blog is getting good traffic, we will expand the list of bloggers.
This has the potential to be an important communications tool for you and your communities. It’s an experiment of sorts; a new way of networking. The site will only be as good as we make it, though.
So – please bookmark the site, visit often, share it with others, and most importantly, share your needs, insights and ideas with the rest of the NC prevention community! We look forward to building this together.
